The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) has announced its intention to discontinue the print edition and operate digitally only, effective January 1, 2026. This move aims to transform the paper into a 'modern media company' and reallocate resources for journalistic endeavors.
Over the past two years, AJC has bolstered its digital presence by revamping its newsroom, updating digital product services, and offering consumers a suite of digital products such as newsletters, podcasts, and original video content.
The AJC has extended its reach beyond Atlanta, opening new offices in Athens, Macon, and Savannah, with plans to enter additional markets.
The digital transformation has resulted in 'double-digit digital subscriber growth' and expanded audience reach in key content areas. The change was hailed as an 'important decision in the evolution of the AJC' by Alex Taylor, chair and CEO of Cox Enterprises.
