Hormuz: Skepticism Grows
The market remains skeptical of the Trump administration’s “Project Freedom” initiative to resolve the oil tanker traffic jam in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite announcements of US military efforts, including over 100 aircraft and 15,000 service members, the project is unlikely to significantly increase shipping volume due to ongoing tensions with Iran, which has resumed attacks and mined the strait. Concerns persist about the safety of vessels attempting transit and the potential for further escalation. Estimates suggest 170 million barrels of oil are currently trapped in the Middle East, and even with OPEC’s increased production promises, the situation is expected to continue driving up global oil and gasoline prices, with no immediate solution in sight.
