SpaceX disabled over 2,500 Starlink devices in Myanmar, used by cyber scam syndicates operating near the Thailand border. Despite regional authorities’ efforts, the scams continued, with SpaceX proactively identifying and disabling the devices in the vicinity of suspected scam centers. This follows a raid by the Myanmar military junta uncovering 2,000 workers at a notorious compound, KK Park, and amid concerns about thousands of victims trapped in other centers. SpaceX’s action comes after a US investigation and as part of a broader effort to combat the growing global scam industry, particularly “pig butchering” scams in Southeast Asia, and following international pressure on the Myanmar military junta.
