Ukrainian soldiers have developed a unique bond with animals, particularly cats and dogs, often referred to as “cat people,” providing care and even evacuating them from the front lines. Despite the ongoing conflict and devastating losses, including those of animals like racehorses and pigs, organizations like UA Animals are working tirelessly to rescue and care for over 10,000 animals, including diverse species like bees and tigers. Soldiers routinely evacuate animals using drones, highlighting the animals’ importance to morale and the lengths to which individuals go to ensure their well-being, often with heartbreaking stories of separation and reunification.
