Isha Sesay revealed the true reason behind her departure from CNN: her mother’s catastrophic stroke in December 2016. After nine years caring for her immobile mother in a semi-vegetative state, she prioritized her own well-being and motherhood. She became a single mother at 46 through sperm donation after two failed IVF attempts, embracing autonomy and challenging societal expectations. Currently, Sesay is the CEO of Areya Media, a digital media platform focused on Black culture and the African diaspora, having rebranded it since taking over in 2021. Despite concerns about biased reporting and declining trust in media, she remains optimistic about journalism’s future and hopes to inspire others through her work and legacy.
