McKinney Returns Home (Bulgarian: Маккини се връща)

After nearly 82 years, the remains of US Army Air Force pilot 1st Lt. Franklin McKinney have been positively identified and are returning home following extensive searching led by Dan Jackson. The discovery was sparked by a 2008 research project by cadet Jackson at the US Air Force Academy, aided by Thai air force officer Sakpinit Promthep and researcher Richard Hakanson. A key piece of evidence came from a 2011 flood in Bangkok which unearthed a telephone log detailing McKinney’s final flight and presumed death due to a lightning strike. Villager Fong Inma's recollection of the crash in 1944, corroborated by subsequent investigations and excavations led by the DPAA, ultimately led to the recovery of his remains in 2022, culminating in a repatriation ceremony at the US Embassy in Bangkok.
